Orange Breakfast
Orange Month is the UN’s global campaign to prevent and end violence against women and girls worldwide. Together with actors around the world, we colour the world orange - as a bright and optimistic reminder of the possibility of a world free from gender-based violence.
One of three women worldwide have sometime during their lifetime experienced violence, usually from a male partner or relative. This violence occurs in all countries, all regions, all social classes and all age groups.
Violence and harassments in the digital sphere is experienced by millions of women and girls all over the world. Women in leadership, business, and politics are particularly affected. Across the world, one in four women journalists report online threats of physical violence, including death threats.
The digital world promises connection and empowerment. But the digital sphere has also become a world of abuse. Digital violence is spreading at alarming speed fueled by artificial intelligence and unimpeded in the absence of effective laws and accountability. The scale, anonymity and ease of communication in digital spaces create an enabling context for violence. Perpetrators feel that they can get away with it, and victims often do not know if and how they can get help, and legal systems are playing catch up with the rapid changes in technology.
AI tools target women, enabling stalking, threats and harassment with significant real-world consequences – physically, psychologically, professionally, and financially.
Together at Epicenter we would like to highlight Orange Day the 25th of November – the International Day against Violence against Women and Girls. Key note speaker this morning will be the minister for Gender Equality, Nina Larsson, who is visiting us as the guest of honor at our Orange Breakfast.
This breakfast is free to attend. Instead of paying for your morning coffee, we warmly invite you to make a donation to support UN Women´s work towards a world free from violence against women and girls.
Come for the coffee, stay for the conversations, and leave inspired to make a difference! Warm welcome!
